Take out all your lingerie and group them up. It all depends on you. I would prefer to group them by its type.(demi, full, half, ¾ , long bra, strapless, detachable straps and etc etc). You can also start off with its colour. You will be surprise by your collection! Another reason to group them up is to simply untangled the knot of your ruthless lingerie that was stuffed inside the drawer. Did I mentioned that this is time to go for another lingerie shopping spree? (woohoo!!)
So what to keep and what to toss?
- Does your bra still (or ever did) fit?
Blame it all on the compulsive shopping disorder! Blame it on the irresistible sales season…But if it does not fit you, it just won't do the work in future. Don't tell yourself you will stick to your diet regime. When you lose that few pounds, it applies to your bosoms too. Beside, lingerie is a delicate garment. Especially bra, it will lose its elasticity after a period of time. Try your collection and toss those that do not fit. Ask these questions while you are at it:
Does your bra runs up when you lift your hands up? Yes > Bra is too loose > TOSS
Does your bra's underwire rest underneath your breasts' creases? No > Wrong cup > TOSS
Are there any gaps at the top or any spillage at the sides or bottom of your bra? Yes > Wrong Cup > TOSS
- Wrinkly bra straps
Need me to say more? To the garbage bin pleasssee! Only exception is that your bra has detachable straps. You can opt to buy those fancy straps available in most lingerie shop. But be warned! The bra straps are designed to complement your bra and to give support. If a wrongly paired strap is used to replace the original, the bra might not give you the support that your bosoms required. So, just toss it away! Same goes for your briefs and thongs. If it loses its elasticity, it will show under any outerwear! Urgh……
- Missing parts
Most of us know that lingerie is a delicate piece of garment and many times, we are advised not to throw the lingerie into the washing machine. Not only it will ruin the materials, it will distort the shape of your bra. If you bra's underwire is bent, crooked, and is poking out from its original channeling, you have to throw this away. Don't ever try to restore it to its original shape. The underwire is distorted by the rigorous washing and it's impossible to get it back to its original shape. If the back hook is torn, you can look for a seamstress to sew a new attach but again, it's not going to be an easy task to find the right back hook. So, save the hassle unless the sentimental value of the bra is the reason you have been keeping it in your drawer.
- Colour…Gone Gone Gone
I know I know, the bra is hidden and no one will know about the colour of your bra. Wearing lingerie is not about hiding it. To feel good about yourself start from inner. Don't you feel good when you pick up that vibrant diamante bra early in the morning and that great feeling actually shines through the day! And definitely you would not want to be caught wearing that horrendous looking bra during that unexpected moment with your loved one. If that bra loses its colour, LOSE IT!
- Spot the difference
I have once come across a customer's complaint about a bra that she purchased several months ago. She returned her bra and what an unimaginable sight. It is filled with dark spots all over it. These dark spots are from mold growth due to humidity and poor lighting when she dries her clothes. It's not uncommon especially if you live in a condominium without a balcony to dry your clothes under sunlight. There is no scientific proof that these dark spot is harmful to human but again, it's your personal hygiene in jeopardy. So do yourself a favor. Get rid of that contaminated bra and do not dry your undies or bra inside your bathroom. Look for an area that has good air flow to make sure you have spot-less lingerie in future.
Now, once you have managed to toss away the unwanted…It's time to organize your closet and keep your lingerie in proper storage. We will talk more about lingerie storage in the next post.
Have fun decluttering!
